ASEAN was established on August 8, 1967 based on the Bangkok Declaration. The ASEAN organization has the motto Mitreka Satata which means always friendly or equal friends. This motto symbolizes unity in fostering friendship among ASEAN member countries.
ASEAN plays a role in enhancing international relations in cooperation developed by ASEAN countries. The cooperation developed by ASEAN member countries is in the economic, political, social and cultural fields.
Asian African Conference (KAA) and the Non-Aligned Movement
KAA in Bandung was the initial process of the birth of the Non-Aligned Movement. KAA was held on 18-24-1995 and was attended by 29 heads of state and heads of government from the continents of Asia and Africa. The birth of the KAA and the Non-Aligned Movement was motivated by several things. The first is the increasing atmosphere of the struggle of colonized nations to gain independence and efforts to build unity among independent countries. Second, there is a competition in the manufacture of modern weapons between the Western Bloc (the United States and its allies) and the Eastern Bloc (Soviet Union and its allies) resulted in the world situation when it was filled with anxiety that an atomic bomb war would occur.
Such conditions encourage developing countries to seek solutions to relieve world tensions and maintain world peace. The main objective of the KAA is to create peace and tranquility in the lives of nations in the Asia-Africa region.
United Nations (UN)
The United Nations was officially established on October 24, 1945. The initiator of the founding of the United Nations was the President of the United States, Flanklin Delano Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill. The two figures initially held a meeting on a cable in the Atlantic which resulted in the Atlantic Charter on August 14, 1941. One of the contents of the charter is the aspiration to create world peace. It is from this content that the UN was born. In an effort to achieve the ideals of world peace, various meetings between countries in the world or various conferences are held. One of the conferences at that time was the San Francisco Conference which was held on April 25 - June 26, 1945. At the conference, representatives of Western countries accepted the general pattern of the League of Nations or the League of Nations with changes and a new name, namely the United Nations Organizations (UNO) or the United Nations (UN) at the same time agreed contents of the UN Charter. The San Francisco Conference was attended by 50 countries, namely the 47 signatory countries of the Declaration of United Nations plus Ukraine, Belarus and Argentina.
