Definition of Adiwiyata, Functions, Criteria, Objectives and Benefits
The definition of Adiwiyata or commonly called Green School is one of the various programs of the state ministry of environment life that aims to encourage the creation of knowledge about the awareness of school members in preserving the environment life.
According to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia No. 05 of 2013, namely regarding Program Implementation Guidelines Adiwiyata stated that Adiwiyata school is a program to create a caring and cultured school environment.
In adiwiyata itself has the meaning as a good and ideal place obtained from all knowledge and various norms and ethics. This becomes the human basis for the creation of well-being towards the goal of sustainable development.
Adiwiyata function
There are several functions of the implementation of the adiwiyata program in which all students or students can take part in all activities or school activities in order to achieve a healthy environment and avoid negative environmental impacts.
According to the Regulation of the Minister of State for the Environment No. 2 in 2009, concerning guidelines for the implementation of the adiwiyata program. That Adiwiyata in article 1 is a good and ideal school as a place to obtain all kinds of knowledge and various things norms and ethics that can become the basis of human beings towards the creation of welfare and development goals sustainable.
In article 1 point 2, that the Adiwiyata Program is a work program with a national scope managed by the State Ministry of Environment in order to realize the development of education environment.
Adiwiyata Purpose
There are several objectives in providing the Adiwiyata program for the Adiwiyata program field observer team.
This was disclosed according to Arjuna and Salmonsius cited by Saragih (2012), when schools have joined the Adiwiyata program, schools The program will receive assistance from a mentoring fund, which is in accordance with the needs proposed by the school and approved by the Ministry of Environment Life.
In general, the objectives of the Adiwiyata program include:
- Creating better conditions for schools to become a place for learning and awareness of all citizens schools between students, teachers, parents/guardians, and the community environment in order to create environmental preservation efforts life
- The school community is also responsible for trying to save the environment as well as sustainable development
- Encourage and assist schools to be able to participate in carrying out government efforts to preserve it environment in sustainable development, environmentally friendly for the sake of the interests of future generations will come.
Adiwiyata target
The target of the Adiwiyata program is formal education at the elementary, middle, high school or vocational level. This is why schools are the target of implementation, because schools have a function and role that contributes to shaping the values of life, especially the value of environmental concern.
The implementation of the school adiwiyata program will receive an assessment and will be rewarded in stages.
Types of Adiwiyata Awards
There are various types of Adiwiyata awards that schools can receive, including:
- District/City Adiwiyata Award, an award given by the Regent/Mayor
- The National Adiwiyata Award is an award given directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry
- The Provincial level Adiwiyata Award is an award given by the Governor
- The Adiwiyata Mandiri Award is a special award for each school with an assessment in the form of schools that have at least 10 assisted schools that have received the District/City Adiwiyata award, as well as awards given by President
Adiwiyata Award Evaluation Criteria
In this case the determination of the criteria for evaluating the Adiwiyata award has 4 aspects, namely:
- Aspects of school policies that have environmental insight
- Aspects of the school curriculum that has an environmental basis
- Aspects of managing facilities as well as supporting school infrastructure that are environmentally friendly
- Aspects of participatory-based environmental activities in schools
Adiwiyata Program Benefits
Below are some of the benefits of implementing the Adiwiyata program, including:
- Can change the behavior of school residents to be able to carry out a culture of environmental preservation
- Can increase the savings of sources of funds through the reduction of resources and energy
- Can avoid a number of environmental impact risks in the school area
- Can increase efficiency in the implementation of activities or school operational activities
- Can create conditions of togetherness for all members of the school
- Can provide learning for the younger generation about the maintenance and management of the environment that is good and right
- Can improve the quality and teaching and learning conditions that are more comfortable and also conducive for all school members
Adiwiyata Program Principles
According to Chaeruddin (2009: 12), the implementation of the Adiwiyata program is based on two principles, namely:
participatory
This means that all components of the school are involved in all processes consisting of planning, implementation and evaluation based on their respective roles and responsibilities.
Sustainable
This means that all activities or activities must be carried out in a planned and continuous manner in a comprehensive manner.
