Tendons are: structure, function, type, way of working and disorders – What do you know about tendons?, On this occasion About the knowledge.co.id will discuss it and of course about other things that also cover it. Let's look at the discussion together in the article below to better understand it.

Tendons Are: Structure, Functions, Types, How They Work And Disturbances

Tendons are a collection of connective tissue that has strong fibers that act as a link between muscle and bone tissue. Tendons are also called sinew or tendons. The structure of the tendon tissue is strong enough to withstand tension.

Tendon tissue is very much like ligaments and fascia because it is made up of collagen. Tendons and muscles synergize in moving the body's skeleton.

In the human body, the function of skeletal muscles is to act as a bone mover that allows the body to perform various activities such as walking, jumping, lifting and moving. When a muscle contracts, the tendon pulls the bone and movement occurs. The location of the tendons is between muscles and bones such as in the hands and arms, feet, legs, thighs, hips, fingers and others.

Tendon Function

The function of the tendons is to help allow free and flexible movement of the body such as running, jumping, walking, lifting, dancing and other physical activities that can be done tendons.

Tendon Structure

Tendons are included in connective tissue, namely tissue that functions as a protector and support for organs and other tissues. The anatomical arrangement of the connective tissue layers that form the tendons are:

  • Collagen

Collagen fibers are the main structure of tendons. The structure of the collagen fibers is very strong, flexible and resistant to damage such as pulling or tension. Generally collagen fibers are arranged in parallel tufts or bundles which help strengthen one's fibers.

  • Epimysium

The epimysium is a layer composed of long collagen fibers from the underlying layers, namely the perimysium and endomysium.

  • Endomisium

The endomysium is a very thin sheathing structure that keeps the innermost muscle fibers separate from one another.

  • Perimisium

Muscle fibers are securely encased in sheets of endomysium forming fascicles. The collagen layer of the endomysium extends outward and fuses with a larger layer of collagen that covers each sheet, which is called the perimysium.

  • Deep Fascia

Each muscle is covered in the epimysium but is connected by another layer called the deep collagen fascia. This layer plays a role in the muscles so as to allow free movement of the muscles and provide blood supply.

Collagen fibrils are the smallest structures that make up tendons. The nature of these collagen fibrils is solid, strong and flexible so that it is resistant to the pull and push that occurs between bones and muscles. If you look deeper, you can find the basic molecules that make up collagen fibrils, namely a number of tropocollagen that coalesce to form Microfibrils and combined collagen microfibrils form collagen subfibrils, then combined subfibrils form fibrils collagen .

Furthermore, the collagen fibrils will join and be covered with a protective layer to form strands called collagen fibers. The combination of a number of collagen fibers and coated with an endotendon layer will form a Primary Collagen Fiber Bundle (Sub-fasicle).

The primary collagen fibers are then joined and covered by the endotendon layer, the layer that protects and stabilizes the tendon, forming the Secondary Collagen Fiber Bundle (fasicle).

The fusion of a number of secondary collagen fiber bundles and coated endotendon layer will form the Tertiary Collagen Fiber Bundle.

Collection of bundles of tertiary collagen fibers with the epitendon or outer layer of the tendon will form the perfect tendon structure.

Types of Tendons

The following types of tendons, including:

  • Origin

The definition of origin is a type of tendon that is attached to a bone whose position does not change when a muscle contraction occurs.

  • Insertion

The definition of insertion is a type of tendon that is attached to a bone whose position changes or moves when a muscle contracts.

How Tendons Work

The mechanism of tendon action is closely related to muscle contraction. When moving or lifting objects, the muscles will stretch indirectly then The impulse will continue to become an efferent impulse to the motor neuron which causes contraction muscle. The muscle contraction will last until the tendon pulls the bone so that movement occurs.

Tendon Disorders

The following are several types of disorders and diseases that can occur in the tendon, including:

  • Tendinitis

Tendinitis or tendonitis is a disorder in the form of inflammation. Generally, tendinitis occurs around the shoulders, wrists, knees, heels and elbows. This condition causes pain and aches in the joints. The cause of tendinitis is the existence of repetitive movements that are carried out and technical errors in carrying out the movements. The cause of tendinitis can be due to the age factor where the older the tendon becomes more flexible and prone to injury.

  • Achilles Tendon Injury

Achilles tendon injury is an injury that affects the tendon in the part that connects the calf muscle to the heel. The Achilles tendon is a tough fibrous cord. If the Achilles tendon is too stretched, it is likely to tear and end in injury.
