Definition of Classification Paragraph
Classification paragraphs are one of several types of paragraphs whose main topic is developed by grouping them into several groups based on certain traits or characteristics.
Classification paragraphs are also interpreted as the development of exposition paragraphs so that this paragraph has the goal of providing very clear information to its readers.
Characteristics of Classification Paragraphs
The characteristics of the classification paragraph include the following:
- There are the words "classified", "divided", "differentiated", "grouped and other similar words. Often this word is usually found at the beginning or becomes the main idea of a paragraph.
- Classification paragraphs have informative nature. Therefore the sentences in the classification paragraphs are in the form of fact sentences.
- As a whole, this paragraph contains a classification of things according to certain references or characteristics.

An example of a classification paragraph is as follows:
Example 1
According to the type, fever is divided into continuous fever, remittent fever, intermittent fever, and bifasiq fever. These types of fever are caused by diseases or infections that infect the limbs.
Continuous fever is caused by the presence of the pneumonia virus in the body, while remittent fever is caused by the presence of rheumatic heart fever and infectious endocarditis.
Then intermittent fever is caused by the malaria virus, and biphasic fever is caused by the dengue virus or leptospirosis.
Example 2
Animals can be divided into several types according to the type of food. The division includes herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.
Herbivorous animals are the names for animals that have a type of food in the form of plants. The position of herbivores is as the first level consumers in the food chain. Types of animals included in the herbivorous animal species are cows, grasshoppers, horses, goats and donkeys.
Carnivores are animals that prey on other types of animals. Carnivorous animals are also called predators for herbivorous animals. The types of animals included in the carnivorous animals are tigers, tigers, weasels and wolves.
