Unit of Weight: Definition, Conversion Ladder and Examples of Problems

The unit of weight is part of the basic unit in the exact sciences which is also called mass. According to International Units, the standard unit of weight is the kilogram (kg).

As for those included in the weight unit, namely; tonnes, quintals, kilograms (kg), hectograms (hg), dekagrams (dag), grams (g), decigrams (dg), centigrams (cg), and milligrams (mg). In addition, other units of weight are ounces (100 g = 1 hg) and pounds (5 ounces).

If an object weighs 10 pounds, it still has a mass of 10 pounds on Earth and the Moon, but on Earth the object will weigh 98 Newtons while the object on the Moon weighs 16.3 Newtons.

From the previous explanation, the various units of weight that we often use are ounces, quintals, tons, kilograms, grams, pounds, and lbs. Where

1 quintal = 100 kg
1 ton = 1000 kg
1 pound = 2.20462 kg
1 gram = 1/1000 kg
1 lbs = 1 pound
