Definition of Planning

Planning is a benchmark to make it easier for managers to achieve a goal, create a strategy to achieve that goal and develop a plan for organizational work activities. Planning is the most important process of all management functions because without planning other functions such as organizing, directing and controlling cannot work.

In another sense, planning is the basic process of management to set goals and steps that must be taken so that goals can be achieved. Planning provides information to coordinate work accurately and effectively. A good plan should be goal based, simple, standardized and flexible, balanced and use available resources first.

Planning Objectives

Each organizational activity in achieving goals requires very mature or serious planning in accordance with its objectives. This is adjusted based on the areas to be achieved. According to Albert Silalahi (1987:167), explains that the purpose of planning is as follows:

Basic Planning Stage

All planning activities basically pass through four stages, including:

  1. Setting goals or a series of planning goals that begin with decisions about a desire or need for an organization or work group. Without a clear formulation of goals the organization will use resources, resources that are not effective.

Formulate the current situation, an understanding of the company's current position from the goals to be achieved or sources The power available to achieve goals is very important because goals and plans relate to the time it will take come.
