Prayer and Dhikr After Prayer

After the prayer, it is recommended to read dhikr and prayer, as the Messenger of Allah has given an example. Likewise the friends, tabiin, tabiut tabiin to the scholars.

Imam Nawawi Rahimahullah in the book Al Adzkar made a special chapter entitled dhikr-dhikr after prayer. He then explained, "The scholars agree that dhikr after prayer is a highly recommended sunnah."

The priority of dhikr

In general, dhikr has many virtues. The following are some of the virtues of dhikr in the Qur'an.

  • 1. Dhikr is Allah's order

Even Allah commands a lot of dhikr, as His word:

O you who believe, dhikr (in the name of) Allah, dhikr as much as possible (QS. Al Ahzab: 41)

  • 2. Dhikr brings forgiveness and reward

People who do a lot of dhikr, promised heaven by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.

Men and women who do a lot of dhikr, Allah will provide for them forgiveness and a great reward (QS. Al Ahzab: 35)

  • 3. Allah remembers those who dhikr

In contrast to remembering creatures that don't necessarily remember us, Allah will remember His servants who make dhikr.

So remember Me, I will also remember you (QS. Al Baqarah: 152)

  • 4. The heart becomes calm

By dhikr to Allah, our hearts will be calm. We will feel peace and happiness.

Believers, their hearts are calmed by the remembrance of Allah. Remember, by dhikr to Allah, the heart becomes calm. (QS. Ar Ra'd: 28)

The priority of prayer

We also need to increase our prayers to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. In general, prayer has five virtues as follows:

  • 1. Prayer is God's commandment

Prayer is the order of Allah Azza wa Jalla. He ordered His servant to pray while declaring that he would grant it. Meanwhile, people who don't want to pray, they are arrogant and threatened to go to hell.

And your Lord said: “Pray to Me, I will surely accept it for you. Indeed, those who are proud of worshiping Me will enter the Hellfire of Hell in a state of humiliation” (QS. Al Mu'min: 60)

  • 2. Allah answered the prayer of His servant

Allah will grant the prayer of the servant who prays to Him. As Al Mu'min's letter above, and also His words:

I grant the request of the person who prays when he asks Me (QS. Al Baqarah: 186)

  • 3. Prayer is worship

Prayer is worship to Allah Azza wa Jalla. As the words of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam:

Prayer is worship (HR. Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and Ahmad)

In the book Tazkiyatun Nafs, Ibn Taimiyah Rahimahullah explains the two contents of Surah Al Baqarah verse 186 related to prayer. First, Allah gives what His servant asks for in prayer. Second, Allah rewards the prayers and worship of His servants.

  • 4. God glorifies prayer

God glorifies prayer more than anything else. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:

There is nothing that is more glorified by Allah Ta'ala than prayer (HR. Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah)

  • 5. Prayer can change qada'

Prayer can change the destiny of God's provision (qadha') as the Prophet said:

Nothing can refuse to make up for it except prayer and nothing can increase life expectancy except good deeds (HR. Tirmidhi)

The Virtue of Dhikr and Prayer After Prayer

Abu Umamah Al Bahili radhiyallahu 'anhu narrated, someone asked the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam:

"O Messenger of Allah, which prayer did Allah hear?" He replied, "(Prayer at) the end of the night and after the maktuba prayer (obligatory prayer)" (HR. Tirmidhi; hasan)

This hadith was included by Imam Nawawi Rahimahullah in the book Al Adzkar in the chapter Dhikr-Dhikr After Prayer.

Proof of Dhikr After Obligatory Prayers

The Prophet after doing the fardhu prayer did not immediately stand up and left the mosque.

After performing the obligatory prayers, he performed the sunnah prayers and offered prayers after the obligatory prayers.

This action of the Prophet is implied in the Bukhari-Muslim hadith which was raised by Ibn Abbas Ra.

It means :

"Raising the sound for dhikr after the obligatory prayers existed at the time of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam." Ibn Abbas said, "I know that the prayer is over by hearing that, that is, when I hear it." (HR. Bukhari Muslim).

Dhikr after the obligatory prayers is highly recommended by the Prophet. Even the Messenger of Allah amplified his dhikr voice in accordance with the following hadith.

It means :

"Raising the voice by saying takbir on dhikr after prayer is a good practice." (Al Muhalla).

Hardening the dhikr after the obligatory prayer is carried out by the imam who leads the congregational prayer. This is so that the congregation can follow him and pray after the obligatory prayers together.

However, if you are doing the obligatory prayers alone, it would be better if the prayers or dhikr after this obligatory prayer are said in a low voice or soft voice.

Allah says in the Qur'an surah Al A'rof verse 55:

It means :

“Pray to your Lord with humility and a soft voice. Verily, Allah does not like those who transgress the limits." (QS. Al A'rof verse 55).

Prayer Readings and Dhikr After Obligatory Prayers

The virtue of prayer that is said after every obligatory prayer is very beneficial for every Muslim who does it. So don't immediately get up and leave after doing fardhu prayers.

By reading the prayer after the obligatory prayer, Allah will always protect, facilitate, grant and provide what is his wish.

However, in saying the prayer after this obligatory prayer, there are procedures that have been taught by the Prophet. By carrying out the procedure for prayer after this obligatory prayer so that prayers and wishes can be immediately granted by Allah.

One way is to pray fervently and surrender and submit to God. We are also obliged to be in a state of purity, clean in heart and sincere when offering prayers and dhikr after prayer.

Although the law of saying prayers and dhikr after prayer is not as heavy as the law of obligatory prayers which must be done by Muslims who are mature and have good sense.

But saying prayers and dhikr after prayer is a recommendation that has been exemplified by the Prophet and the scholars who always pray and dhikr after finishing prayers.

For this reason, we as good Muslims should also follow the example of the Prophet's habits with good and correct prayer procedures.

  • Reciting Dhikr After Obligatory Prayers

Here are some recitations of dhikr after fardhu prayers that we can pray.

    • 1. Read Istighfar

The dhikr after the prayer that is recited for the first time is to read the prayer of istighfar to ask Allah for forgiveness.

"Astaghfirullah Hal Adzim Alladzi La ilaha Illa Huwal Hayyul Qoyyumu Wa atubu Ilaihi." (As many as 3x).

It means :

"I beg forgiveness from Allah, the Most Great, in whom there is no god but He, the Living, the Most Self-Sufficient, and I repent to Him."

    • 2. Read the Salvation Prayer

The next dhikr is by reading a prayer for safety so that you are safe from ugliness and shortcomings.

"Allahumma antassalam waminkassalam tabarakta Ya Dzaljalali wal ikram."

It means:

"O Allah, You are As-Salaam (The survivor of the ugliness, shortcomings and damages) and from You as-salaam (safety), Blessed be You O Essence of the Most High and Most Kind.” (HR. Muslim).

    • 3. Reading the Word of Tawhid

Dhikr after the next prayer is to read the sentence of monotheism:

"Laa ilaha illallah wahda, laa syarika lah, Lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli syai-in qodiir."

It means :

“There is no Lord who has the right to be worshiped except Allah, the One and Only, for Him there is no partner. To Him is the kingdom. To Him idol. He is the Almighty over all things.”

"Laa ilaaha Illallahu wahdahu laa syarikalahu, lahul mulku walahul hamdu wahuwa 'alaa kulli syai-inq qodir, Allahumma laa mani 'aa lima a' thoita wala mughthiya lima managhta wala yanfa'u dzaljaddi minkal jadu.”

It means :

“There is no god worthy of worship except Allah, He has no partners, to Him is all kingdoms and praise, and He has power over all things. O Allah, no one can refuse what You give and no one can give against what Thou hast rejected and one who has wealth cannot deprive him of torment you."

"Laa ilaha illallah wahdahu laa syarika lah.

It means :

“There is no Lord who has the right to be worshiped except Allah, the One and Only, He has no partner. To Him be the kingdom and the glory. He is almighty over all things. There is no power and strength except (with the help of) Allah. There is no Lord who has the right to be worshiped except Allah. We do not worship except Him. To Him are favors, gifts and good praise. There is no Lord (who has the right to be worshiped) except Allah, by purifying the worship of Him, even though the disbelievers hate each other."

    • 4. Read a Prayer of Praise to God

Next dhikr by reading a prayer of praise to Allah.

"Subhanallah Walhamdulillah Wala Ilaha Illallah Wallahu Akbar". (A total of 33 times).

"All praise is due to Allâh, the Lord of the Worlds. Ar Rahmaanirrahim. Maaliki yaumiddiin. Iyyaaka na'budu wa iyyaaka nasta'iin. Ihdinash-shirraatal musthaqiim. Shiraathal ladziina an'amta 'alaihim ghairil maghduubi 'alaihim waladh-dhaalliin"

It means :

“Praise be to Allah, Lord of all the worlds, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Lago, the Owner of the Day of Judgment. Only to You we worship and only to You do we ask for help. "Alloohu laa ilaaha illaa huwal hayyul qoyyuum, laa ta'khudzuhuu sinatuw walaa naum. Lahuu maa fissamaawaati wa maa fil ardli man dzal ladzii yasyfa'u 'indahuu illaa biidznih, ya'lamu maa baina aidiihim wamaa kholfahum wa laa yuhiithuuna bisyai'im min 'ilmihii illaa bimaa syaa' wasi'a Kursiyyuhus samaawaati wal ardlo walaa ya'uuduhuu hifdhuhumaa wahuwal 'aliyyul 'adhiim."

His are whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. No one can intercede with Allah without His permission.

Verily, Allah knows best what is before them and behind them. And they know nothing from Allah's knowledge except what He wills.

Allah's chair covers the heavens and the earth. And Allah does not find it hard to care for both of them, and Allah is the Most High, the Most Great." (QS. Al Baqarah verse 255).

Prayer and Dhikr After Prayer

  • Prayers After Obligatory Prayers

After doing dhikr after the obligatory prayers above, then proceed with praying after the obligatory prayers.

The prayer after this obligatory prayer consists of:

    • 1. Reading Tahmid, Praise and Thanks to Allah

First of all what is recommended to be read in prayer after the obligatory prayer is reading tahmid, and praising and thanking Allah for all the blessings bestowed by Him.

“O Allah, bestow mercy and prosperity on our prince, the Prophet Muhammad and his family, that is grace that can save us from all fear and disease, that can meet all needs we."

"Who can purify us of all evil, who can elevate us to the highest degree in by Your side, and can lead us to the maximum goal of all goodness, both during life and after dead."

    • 3. Read Prayers Happy World and Hereafter

The prayer after the next prayer is to recite a prayer for safety in this world and the hereafter. We offer this prayer for salvation to ask for salvation in the world and to be kept away from the torments of hell fire.

It means :

"O Allah, indeed we ask You, happiness in religion, this world and the hereafter, the health of the body, health body, additional knowledge, blessings of sustenance, repentance before death comes, mercy at the time of death, and forgiveness after coming death."

"O Allah, make it easy for us to face the agony of death, save us from the torment of hell fire, and forgiveness at the time of reckoning."

“O Allah, do not shake our hearts after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Your side. Indeed, You are the Giver.”

    • 4. Reading Prayers For Parents

In the prayer after prayer, we also pray for parents. Always always pray for our parents to get forgiveness of their sins.

“Allaahummaghfirlii Dzunuubi Waliwaalidayya Warhamhumaa Kamaa Rabbayaanii Saghiiraa”

It means :

"O Allah, forgive all my sins and the sins of my parents, and be merciful to them both as they were merciful to me when I was small."

    • 5. Reading the Prayer for Happiness in the World and the Hereafter

Prayer after the next prayer is to read a prayer to get an abundance of good fortune, happiness in the world and the hereafter.

“Rabbanaa Aatinaa Fid Dun Yaa Hasanatan Wafil Aakhirati Hasanatan Waqinaa Adzaabannaar”

It means :

"O Our Lord, bestow upon us the good in this world and the good in the hereafter and save us from the torment of hell."

    • 6. Read the Closing Prayer

After reading several prayers after the prayer, this prayer is closed with a closing prayer by asking for mercy for the prophet Muhammad, his family and his friends.

“Washallallaahu 'Alaa Sayyidinaa Muhammadin Wa'alaa Aali Sayyidinaa Muhammad. Walhamdulillaahi Rabbil 'Aalamiin."

It means :

"May Allah grant mercy and prosperity to our master, Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions and all praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds."

Thus a summary of the prayer after performing the obligatory prayer. The virtue of the obligatory prayer is extraordinary for those who do it, especially when added to praying afterwards.

If you have a wish or hajat, then ask Allah by saying your request.

You can make your wish or hajat before reading the closing prayer.

Thus the review from About the knowledge.co.id about Prayer and Dhikr After Prayer, hopefully can add to your insight and knowledge. Thank you for visiting and don't forget to read other articles.
