Differences in Cardiac Striated Smooth Muscle, Shape, Working System and Location

Differences in Cardiac Striated Smooth Muscle, Shape, Working System and Location – What are the Differences in Cardiac Striated Smooth Muscle?, On this occasion About the knowledge.co.id will discuss it and of course other things that also cover it. Let's look at the discussion together in the article below to better understand it.

Differences in Cardiac Striated Smooth Muscle, Shape, Working System and Location

Muscle is a tissue in the body of humans and animals that functions as an active means of movement that moves bones. Muscles are grouped into three types namely striated muscles, smooth muscles and cardiac muscles. Muscles cause the movement of an organism as well as the movement of organs within the organism.

The way muscles work is divided into two, namely antagonistic and synergistic. Muscles that work against each other are known as antagonists. While synergistic is the term for how the muscles work that support each other.

The most frequently given example of how the antagonist muscles work is the muscles in the arms, namely the biceps and triceps. The biceps are located on the front of the upper arm. While the triceps are on the back of the upper arm.

The mechanism of action of these two muscles is opposite or contradictory (antagonist). When the bicep contracts, the tricep relaxes, lifting the forearm. Conversely, if the triceps contract, the biceps will relax, so that the forearm drops or straightens again.

Types of muscles

The muscles are divided into 3 parts, namely Striated Muscles, Smooth Muscles, and Cardiac Muscles. The explanation of the three types of muscles is as follows:

  • Striated muscle

Striated muscle is a muscle that has the appearance as its name suggests, namely a striated appearance between dark and light with an alternating appearance. This striated muscle is in the skeleton and attaches to the human or animal skeleton so that this muscle is also often referred to as skeletal muscle.

These muscles are spread all over the body of humans and animals. The workings of this striated muscle work subconsciously or not reflexively, meaning that this muscle is moved consciously by humans and animals. The striated muscle also has the characteristic of being easily fatigued due to the presence of lactic acid that accumulates in the striated muscle cells.

  • Smooth muscle

Smooth muscle is a muscle that belongs to the category of involuntary or reflex muscle. It means that this muscle works under our conscious awareness. Smooth muscle is a muscle whose network is formed by muscle cells and smooth muscle form like spindles, which are tapered at both ends as well as the middle bubble.

Smooth muscle also forms the lining of the elements or organs in the body, such as the intestinal wall, blood vessels, genital tract, and uterine wall. For this reason, smooth muscles are often called the muscles of the internal organs. The workings of smooth muscles are not based on brain commands, but occur outside of the brain's awareness. For this reason, smooth muscles are also called involuntary (autonomic) muscles.

  • Cardiac muscle

Cardiac muscle is the muscle that forms the heart. It is a striated type of muscle, with alternating segments of thick and thin protein fibers often associated with myosin and actin, respectively, causing this striation.

The function of the heart muscle is to pump the heart to circulate blood throughout the body. The main feature of cardiac muscles is that they are active once they are active by always undergoing a process of contraction and relaxation without experiencing a state of fatigue.

It is interesting for us to know that cardiac muscle activity starts from the fetal stage and lasts until death. The reason why the heart muscle remains tireless is because there is a very high supply of oxygen. The design of the circulatory system contributes to providing blood with the highest concentration of oxygen for the heart muscle.

Cardiac muscles consist of various cardiac muscle cells which are often called cardiomyocytes. Within each cardiomyocyte, there are one or two nuclei, but sometimes there may be 3 or 4 nuclei in a single cell. The rhythmic contraction and relaxation of the heart muscle results in a rhythmic beat and the heart beats.

Differences and characteristics of striated muscle, smooth muscle and cardiac muscle

  • Characteristics of Striated Muscles

    • Has a large number of cell nuclei.
    • The position of the cell nucleus is at the edge of the cell.
    • The work system is carried out consciously.
    • The reaction to his movement was swift.
    • Movement does not get tired.
    • Its position is on the frame.
    • Examples of Striated Muscles: Thigh muscles, calf muscles, arm muscles, and abdominal muscles

  • Characteristics of Cardiac Muscles

    • It has a cylindrical, elongated, and branched shape.
    • The number of cell nuclei is more than one.
    •  The system works unconsciously.
    • The reaction to his movements was slow.
    • Movement does not get tired.
    • Its position or location is on the heart.
    • Examples of Cardiac Muscles: Found in the heart

  • Characteristics of Smooth Muscles

    • It has a pointed shape at the end
    • Has a spindle shape.
    • Has only one number of cell nuclei.
    • The location of the cell nucleus is in the middle of the cell.
    • The work system is carried out unconsciously.
    • Reaction to movement is slow.
    • Movement does not get tired.
    • Its position is in the organ system.
    • Examples of Smooth Muscles: Intestinal muscles, cardiac muscles, and gastric muscles

  • Difference between Smooth Muscle and Skeletal Muscle

    • Smooth muscle cells are spindle shaped with tapered ends. Meanwhile, striated muscles are elongated and cylindrical in shape.
    • The number of nuclei in each smooth muscle cell is one. Meanwhile, the number of cell nuclei in striated muscles is large.
    • Smooth muscle movements are rhythmic, while striated muscles are not rhythmic because they work according to our will or reflex action.
    • The location of the cell nucleus in smooth muscle is in the middle, while in striated muscle it is at the edge of the cell so that it can be seen clearly from the outside.
    • Smooth muscles work unconsciously or cannot be controlled by our minds, while striated muscles work consciously so that we can control their movements.
    • Smooth muscle reactions are slow, whereas striated muscle reactions are fast.
    • When smooth muscles move, they don't feel tired even though they move continuously without stopping. Meanwhile, when the striated muscles move, they will quickly feel tired because the blood flowing is obstructed when movement occurs.
    • Smooth muscles are located in organ systems, while striated muscles are attached to the skeleton.
Differences in Cardiac Striated Smooth Muscle, Shape, Working System and Location

  • Difference between Smooth Muscle and Cardiac Muscle

    • The shape of smooth muscle is in the form of spindles with tapered ends, while the cylindrical form of cardiac muscle is elongated and has branches.
    • The number of cell nuclei in smooth muscle is only one, while the number of cell nuclei in cardiac muscle is more than one.
    • The location of smooth muscle is in organ systems, while cardiac muscle is only in the heart.
