Research activity is a process of obtaining or acquiring knowledge or solving problems encountered, which is carried out scientifically, systematically and logically. In research in any field, these stages generally have similarities, although there are some things that often occur in internal modifications implementation by researchers in accordance with the conditions and situations encountered without ignoring the general principles used in the process study.

Broadly speaking, the stages taken in carrying out the research are three stages, namely:

1. Planning Stage

Activities carried out in the planning stage include:

Identifying problems/Searching for problems: At this stage, the researcher must first look for the problem to be studied.

Formulate the problem: Where at this stage is a continuation of the discovery of the problem which then the researcher makes a problem statement based on the problems to be studied. Make it operational and make the boundaries of the problem, especially in determining the scope of the problem under study.

Conduct preliminary studies: This is done with the aim of gathering information relating to the problem to be studied. So that we can know the condition or position of the problem both theoretically and practically. The knowledge gained from preliminary studies is very useful for developing a theoretical framework about solving problems in the form of hypotheses that will be tested for truth through conducting research field. Preliminary studies can be done with documentary studies, literature and field studies.

Formulate hypotheses: A hypothesis is a temporary conjecture that will be proven true through research in the field.

Determine the research sample: At this stage, the object to be studied is determined. The entire object to be studied is called the research population. If the research only uses a portion of the population, then in this case it is enough to use a sample.

Develop a research plan: This stage is a guide during conducting research. As a planning pattern, it must be able to disclose matters relating to the implementation of research activities, and contain the following matters:

  • The problems studied and the reasons for conducting research;
  • The form or type of data required;
  • The purpose of conducting research;
  • Research benefits or uses;
  • Where is the research conducted;
  • The period of research implementation;
  • Organization of activities and financing;
  • The hypothesis proposed;
  • Data collection and data processing techniques;
  • Planned systematic reporting;
  • Determine and formulate research tools or data collection techniques.

2. Research Implementation Stage

In this stage, there are several activities that must be carried out properly. Among the activities in the implementation of research include:

  • Data collection

    This activity must be based on the guidelines that have been prepared in the research design. The data collected through research activities is used as the basis for testing the proposed hypotheses.

  • Data analysis

    This data processing or analysis is carried out after all the data has been collected which is then analyzed, and the hypothesis submitted is tested for its validity through this analysis. If the type of data collected is in the form of qualitative data, then the data processing is done by drawing deductive-inductive conclusions, but if the data collected is in the form of quantitative data types or in the form of numbers, the analysis used uses quantitative or statistical analysis before drawing conclusions qualitative.

3. Research Report

For publication purposes, the research must be reported to interested persons. The form and systematic research report can be in the form of scientific articles, reports, theses or dissertations. This research report stage is the final stage in a research process.
