Flowchart: Understanding According to Experts, Purpose, Functions, Types and Symbols
Flowchart: Understanding According to Experts, Purpose, Functions, Types and Symbols – What is meant by a flowchart? On this occasion About the knowledge.co.id will discuss it and of course other things that also cover it. Let's look at the discussion together in the article below to better understand it.
Flowchart: Understanding According to Experts, Purpose, Functions, Types and Symbols
Flowchart (flow chart) is a type of diagram that represents an algorithm or sequential instruction steps in a system
Flowchart is a systematic presentation of the process and logic of activities, handling an information or graphical depiction of the steps and sequences of procedures from a program.
Flowcharts help analysts and programmers to break down problems into smaller segments and help in analyzing other alternatives in operation.
Flowcharts are usually to make it easier to solve a problem, especially problems that need to be studied and evaluated further. Flowchart is assumed as one way of presenting an algorithm.
In designing a flowchart, there is actually no formula or standard that is absolute (certain). This can be based on a flowchart (flow chart) which is an illustration of the results of thinking in analyzing a problem in a computer.
Because each analysis will produce a result that varies from one to another. Even so, in general any flowchart design will always consist of three parts, namely input, process and output.
The flowchart also has symbols that have their own meaning in the process of building a system. As a system analyst, this flowchart is used as a basis for being able to propose a program to programmers or developers.
Based on the flowchart, programmers are also able to read and create programs according to the demands of system analysts.
Definition of Flowchart According to Experts
- Jogiyanto
A flowchart is a diagram that displays flow in a logical system design or method.
- Krismiaji
Flowchart is a logical way that is used to be able to describe parts of the information system clearly, precisely and logically.
- Sariadin Siallagan
Flowchart is a flowchart that can apply signs to solve a problem.
- Pahlevi (2010)
A flowchart is an illustration in the form of a flowchart of the algorithms in a program, which states a direction for the flow of the program.
- Indrajani (2011)
Flowchart is a graphical description of the steps and sequence of procedures in a program.
Purpose of Flowcharts
The purpose of a flowchart is to be able to describe a stage of solving a problem in a simple, decomposed, neat and clear manner using standard symbols.
Following are the complete objectives of the Flowchart including:
- Describes a stage of completion of the problem.
- In a simple, decomposed, neat and clear.
- Use standard symbols.
Flowchart function
-
New Project Planning
When you are about to start designing a project, the next thing you can do is divide the project into a flowchart. in order to assist you in designing several stages involving joint decisions.
- Manage Workflow
To be able to manage flowchart workflow is a technique that is very important to do. Because, the flowchart functions in determining the integrity of the procedure, which can produce very high-quality results based on the existing steps.
- Modeling Business Procedures
Business procedures are not only related to profit, apart from that a series of tasks, both easy and difficult, are also included in the business procedure.
The purpose of this flowchart modeling can be implemented to obtain stable results and can also be planned.
- Documentation of Every Process
In completing a project required a documentation of a process. With that in mind, flowcharts can also be a great tool for the fulfillment of desired goals.
If we compare by making a document in each process with a narrative and grouping them into flowchart chart, then using a flowchart is something that is very efficient when compared to making something narrative.
- Explaining the Algorithm
Generally, before submitting a project that will be built into the program, the planer system first determines the algorithm to be able to make the project use SDL.
SDL (Specification and Description Language) is a specification language that is used to describe the behavior of existing systems. Because flowcharts provide unique symbols or images that can be used to position the system to be built.
Apart from that, flowcharts can also provide resources that can be used to solve a problem.
- Predicting Process
Usually, this flowchart can be used to be able to predict the damage that occurs in each procedure. Flowchart charts can help you to solve problems. The problem with the technique is to map each process down into its more detailed parts, then check which steps don't work or need to be done an improvement.
Types of Flowcharts
-
System Flowchart (System Flowchart)
A System Flowchart is one chart that shows workflow or what's going on done in the system as a whole and can explain the sequence of existing procedures in system.
Flowchart This system consists of data flowing through the system and a process that transforms the data. Data and processes in this system flowchart can be described online or offline.
Document Flowchart
Document flowchart (document flowchart) or also known as a form flowchart or paperwork flowchart is one flow chart that shows the flow of reports and forms included translucency. This document flowchart may use the same symbols used in the system flowchart.
Schematic Flowchart
A schematic flowchart is a flowchart that is similar to a system flowchart, namely to be able to describe procedures in the system. The difference is that the schematic flowchart, apart from using system flowchart symbols, can also use computer drawings and other equipment used.
The purpose of using these images is to facilitate communication for people who are not familiar with flowchart symbols. The use of these images makes it easy to understand, but difficult and long to draw.
Flowchart Program (Program Flowchart)
Flowchart program (program flowchart) is a flow chart that describes in detail the steps of the program process. The program flowchart is created from the system flowchart derivation.
This flowchart can also consist of two kinds, namely program logic flowcharts and detailed computer program flowcharts.
A program logic flow chart is used to be able to describe each step in a computer program logically. This program logic flowchart can be prepared by system analyst.
Process Flowchart (Process Flowchart)
Process flowchart is one of the industrial engineering drawing techniques that can break down and analyze the next steps in a procedure or system.
Process flowcharts are used by industrial engineers to study and develop manufacturing processes.
Difference between DFD and Flowchart
- DFD is useful to be able to show the flow of data in the system while the system flowchart shows the workflow of the system or the various procedures that exist in a system.
- The process of DFD is carried out simultaneously or in parallel, while in the flowchart the plots are sequential.
- There is no looping in DFD while in the opposite flowchart, there is looping.
- In DFD there is no calculation process while there is a flowchart.
Advantages of Using Flowcharts
Here are some advantages in using a Flowchart (Flow Chart), among others, as follows:
- As a Documentation of Work Procedures in ISO.
- As a guide to be able to run Operations.
- As a guide to be able to conduct training for new employees.
- As a benchmark or benchmark.
- As a work map to prevent loss of direction.
- In order to facilitate decision making.
Symbols - Flowchart Symbols (Flow Charts)
-
Start or Start or End or End Symbol (Start or End)
This Start and End symbol is usually represented by an Oval, Circle or Square whose corners are rounded.
- Process or Activity Symbol (Process)
The symbol for a process or step or an activity to be carried out is generally in the form of a rectangular box.
- Conditional or Decision Symbols (Conditional or Decision)
Conditional Symbols or Decisions are usually symbolized by a Diamond-shaped Box (Rhombus) which will generally have an Output such as Yes or No, True or False.
- Flow Direction Symbol (Flow)
The Process Flow Direction symbol is denoted by an Arrow (Arrow) with arrows leading to the next process.
- Input or Output Symbol (Input or Output)
The symbol to be able to show Data Input and Output (Input and Output) is symbolized by a Box in the form of a parallelogram (Parallelogram).
