The definition of environment is the overall physical condition of an area which includes the condition of natural resources (water, solar energy, flora, fauna, minerals, soil). This includes institutions that cover human creations, for example decisions about how to manage the physical environment.

Another definition of the environment is everything that is around humans and is reciprocally related and influences one another.

In this case the environment consists of several components of living things (biotic) and non-living things that exist on earth (abiotic). The biotic components can be in the form of animals, humans, plants, and microorganisms. As for abiotic such as water, soil, light, air, humidity, climate and others.

According to him, the definition of the environment is all external factors which are biological and physical in nature These factors will directly affect life, development, growth, and reproductive activity organism.

Types of Environment

The environment is generally divided into 2 types, viz

  1. Natural Environment

The natural environment is an environment that is formed from natural processes which in its development have not been updated by humans. Natural processes include ecosystems and all the components contained therein, be it physical or biological.

In this case, the natural environment emerges dynamically without deliberate human intervention. for example; valleys, forests, mountains, hills, swamps, seas and more.

  1. Built Environment

The built environment is an environment that is formed due to deliberate human intervention. In general, the built environment exists because it was created by humans using knowledge and the help of modern technology.

The purpose of creating an environment is to be occupied by organisms, be it humans, animals or plants. For example schools, villages, playgrounds, markets, parks, reservoirs, and others.

Environmental Composition Elements

According to Law No. 23 of 1997 concerning Environmental Management, that the notion of the environment is a spatial unit with all objects, forces, conditions and living things, including humans, and their behavior, which affect the survival and well-being of humans and living things other.

In accordance with this regarding the constituent elements of the environment that have been regulated in Law (UU) number. 23 of 1997 concerning Environmental Management, including:

  • Elements of the Biotic Environment

The biotic environment is a component of the environment consisting of various types of organisms or living things on earth (animals, humans, microorganisms and plants).

  • Abiotic Environmental Elements

This abiotic environment is all inanimate matter on the surface of the earth that provides benefits as well also affect the life of organisms (air, soil, climate, water, light, humidity and sun other).

  • Element

    Socio-Cultural Environment

Environmental elements that are formed from all social and cultural activities carried out by humans are arranged and form a system (values, ideas, norms and others).

Causes of Environmental Damage

In its development, the environment can experience damage, either naturally occurring or also as a result of human activity. All this environmental damage and pollution will certainly cause problems for the health of living things, including humans, animals and plants.

Environmental damage and pollution can occur due to artificial factors and natural factors, including:

  1. Natural Factors

In this case there are several causes of environmental damage caused by natural disasters, for example volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, droughts, earthquakes, storms and others. Even so, now it can be predicted that there will be natural events so that natural phenomena can be prevented.

  1. Artificial Factor
